Hi and thank you for stopping by. I’m Jo, the founder of Little Corner of Happiness. Here you'll find a range of contemporary gifts all carefully chosen with happiness in mind. You’re sure to find the perfect gift for a loved one, a heartwarming piece for your home or perhaps a well-deserved treat for you!
It still gives me such a buzz when I think about what I've achieved so far with Little Corner of Happiness. When I started the business I had no retail experience at all apart from ‘playing shops’ as a child (I had a cash register just like this one). Now I have a group of loyal customers (I'm very grateful to you all) and a growing online business operating from a website that I built myself. Never in my wildest dreams did I think this would ever happen.
I’d considered retail before, but the expense and restriction of being in a shop 6 or 7 days a week just did not work for me. But lately the shift to online shopping and pop-up events for small independent retailers made the prospect much more exciting and the thought of starting up made me much happier than I had been in a while. So, I went on the hunt for stock, chose the business name, found some events and my little empire started to grow. The name exactly reflects what I wanted to create. I’ve spent time surrounding myself with things that make me happy and I wanted Little Corner of Happiness to be full of beautiful things that would make people smile. My mission is always to carefully choose items that will bring happiness, that will help create 'special' corners in your home or make the perfect gift for loved ones. One of my favourite jobs is seeking out the unusual and ranges that have a sense of humour - check out my own personal favourite picture from home! Just in case you can't see, the caption is 'Peking Duck'.
Before Little Corner of Happiness, I had a corporate career in various Human Resources Management roles up to the birth of my first child. Knowing that this career didn't give me flexibility around family life (which grew by another one a few years later) I decided to re-train as an Image Consultant and launch my own business, Creative Confidence. For 14 years I helped hundreds of women (and a few men) to gain more confidence in the way they dressed and presented themselves to the world and for the final 4 years introduced organic skincare too as a consultant with Neal’s Yard Remedies. It really was a privilege to be able to work, laugh and sometimes cry with so many wonderful people and I’m very grateful to have been given the opportunity to help.
In the future I’d really like to start running 'happiness' workshops, which will utilise the skills I have from my previous roles, to share simple strategies and activities for a happier life. For now though, do enjoy browsing through the website – did I mention that I built it myself? It may not be perfect but it’s all my own work – not bad for a technophobe!! You can also check out my events page and if you come along to any, do pop over and say hello! Whether you shop at my website or an event, rest assured this represents my Little Corner of Happiness and I hope you find something to create your little corner of happiness too.
With much gratitude
